COMMONS seeks to examine and re-value our common resources. Every element of this piece has been diverted from landfill; single use plastic and discarded electrics have been fused, collaged, embroidered and woven.
The installation was first exhibited at the Manifesto! exhibition, Project Ability, in March 2018. The project aims to raise awareness of the over-consumption of scarce resources, and the wasteful and destructive nature of our ‘take, make, discard’ model of production and consumption.
Promoting a closed-loop, cyclical economy of recovery and renewal, pieces are periodically made available for barter with the public, in exchange for materials used to create more work, or in exchange for help with beach clean events. COMMONS, therefore, is an ongoing work, continually expanded and renewed.
